April 1, 2014

Today has been great! This morning got up and jogged 800m with high altitude mask on. Then I did sprints, 4x100m with 30s recovery between sprints. After my sprints I did 30 squats for day 28 of my 30 day squat challenge and 30 calf raises for day 3 of 30 day challenge for myself. Afterwards I did some stretching to increase flexibility.
This afternoon I took a challenge that was just an April Fool's Day challenge. Not meant to be done. But I thought what the Hell. The challenge was 100 burpees and 100 push ups for time with a cap of 20 minutes. I moved through the burpees pretty good. I finished the 100 in about 8:30 minutes. The push ups were another story. They kicked my tail, especially since my arms were feeling it from the burpees. I finished the challenge in 13:14. I was hoping for a faster time and sure was pushing for it. I have a reference point and will push to improve this time. So day 9 complete on 100 burpees a day for 100 days and day 1 complete in the 30 push ups a day challenge. Working on being a Spartan is constant challenge and pushing yourself to limits never knew could achieve.

October 7, 2013 training

So today I am back to work training for upcoming events and improving my fitness level. I have less than 2 weeks til I head to MS to compete in my first Spartan Sprint. I am so pumped and ready for fun.
This morning I went back to jogging to work. I did 4.5 miles in 40:53 a 8:56 per mile pace. Started out stiff this morning. I decided not to push the runs or paces and just flow with what my body offers. Run ended up being good and was able to loosen up as the run went on.
This afternoon I did the return run home. Another 4.5 miles home, but this time pace was slower at 9:16 per mile pace. Completed in 41:54. When I got home, headed to playground to complete my Tabata training. I added a 4th round to the routine. It felt really great.

Update

I know I have not posted anything this past week. I have been recovering from a low back injury. I strained something in my low back last Sunday and it tightened up on me on my trip back home last Sunday evening. I have spent the week rolling on a foam roll and stretching. I really believe in using a foam roller when having muscle tightness. It really seems to massage out any muscle spasms and trigger points allowing for faster recovery. I will use the foam roll daily to prevent further injuries and tightness to muscles. I am looking forward to starting back on my routines this coming Monday!

Day 17 Workout

Well today has come and gone. This morning I did the Cardio Recovery DVD from Insanity. I was thinking it was going to be an easy stretch type recovery workout from the intense routine the past 2 days. Don't let the title of the workout fool you, it did me. This routine consisted of yoga, balance stretching, pulse squats and lunges, squat and lunge holds...it was work and I have felt it majority of the day. I realized after I got started that these routines never give you a break.

Day 11 Workout

Today I did the Yoga X DVD. I accomplished my goal of adding more time to this routine. I was able to do an hour and fifteen minutes. I don't think my body had ever been twisted and stretched like today. More so than last week. I tried to push further to get more stretch. My hips have felt it today, being sore from stretching more. I was surprised that I could get into the positions, and be able to hold the positions as long as I did for each move. I look forward to my journey to more flexible body.

Day 4 Workout

I have completed my workouts for the day. As I posted earlier today in my 'Goals' post that I did Yoga X, I am still little sore from the stretching. As I said earlier though, that my goal s to improve my flexibility and I will continue to work hard to achieve that goal. I also swam this morning after yoga. That I believe is the best cross training that I can do. This evening I did a 3 mile run. It is my last distance run for the week. Continue working hard and all goals can be achieved.

Goals

During this morning's workout session of Yoga X in P90X series, I realized that I am not flexible. I really struggled with being put in some of the positions and having to stretch. Stretching is something I normally don't do much of. Also I was only able to do 40 min of the hour and half workout. So I have set a couple of new goals within my quest to reach my ultimate goal.
1. To improve my flexibility
2. To add 10-15 min each time I do the Yoga X DVD until can complete entire workout.
These are certainly attainable. I know that yoga will improve my running, and will assist me in becoming a more fit and healthy individual!
